No account, no profile about you

The US site has no signup and no login. We do not create a user account for you, and we do not build a profile of you across visits.

What stays in your browser

A few things are kept by your own browser, on your device:

• Drafts. As you fill a document in, the current draft is written to your browser's session storage so a refresh does not lose your work. Session storage is cleared by your browser when you close the tab. Drafts older than three hours are ignored.

• Saved details, only if you ask. If you press Remember me, the identity fields you have filled in — your name or business name, your address/contact block, your employer, and your preferred currency — are written to your browser's local storage. This is off unless you turn it on, it never includes the other party's details or the contents of a document (amounts, dates, reasons), and you can delete it from the same bar at any time. When you delete it, it is gone: we have no copy.

• Saved documents, only if you ask. If you choose Save to my documents, that document's field values are stored in an IndexedDB database in your browser (named formzip-us) on this device. The My documents page lets you see everything you have saved, export all of it as a JSON file, or delete it — one item or all at once. Deleting removes it for good: we have no copy.

• Carrying details to the next document. When you convert one document into another, the values being carried over are put in session storage. The next document takes them and clears them as it loads; values older than ten minutes are ignored, and anything left over is cleared by your browser when you close the tab.

• Which steps of a situation you have finished. When you download a document that belongs to a situation pack — Get paid, Run a service job, Leave a job — we note the pack and the document type in your browser's local storage, so we can tell whether people finish the whole task or stop after one file. It holds only those two labels: never a name, an amount, or anything you typed. If you have not agreed to analytics, it stays on this device and is never sent. Clearing everything on the My documents page removes it too.

Nothing in this list is synced to us or backed up by us. Apart from the optional analytics described below, the one time your details leave your device is the download itself, described next.

What reaches our server, and what happens to it

When you press Download, the field values and line items for that one document are sent to our server so it can render the PDF or Word file, and the finished file is sent straight back to you. We do not write those values to a database or a file store, and they are not kept after the response. When a download fails, what we record is the type of failure — not what you typed.

To keep the service available we limit how many documents one connection can request in a short window. That means your IP address is held in the server's memory to count recent requests. It is never written to a database or a file, and it is gone when the server process restarts. Document rendering may run on a server we operate in Germany, so this request — the document values and your IP address, for the same rate-limiting purpose — may be processed outside the United States.

No advertising — and no analytics or cookies unless you say yes

The US site loads no advertising and no advertising identifiers. Analytics and analytics cookies exist only if you opt in — until you say yes, no analytics script loads and no cookie is set. The next section describes exactly what saying yes does.

Third parties that do receive something

• Analytics, only if you say yes. We ask once, at the bottom of the page. Until you choose Yes, no analytics script loads, no analytics cookie is set, and no event is sent — there is nothing to opt out of yet. If you say yes, Google Analytics receives which pages you visited, which document template you used, the file format, a broad screen-size bucket, and success or failure codes. It also receives your IP address and basic browser information, as Google would for any site. **It does not receive what you type into a document** — the code sends only a fixed list of non-identifying values, and anything outside that list is dropped before sending.

Saying no changes nothing about how this site works. You can change your mind at any time from the footer; turning it off stops collection immediately and deletes the analytics cookies already set.

• Google Fonts. Our pages load two typefaces from Google's font servers. Making that request tells Google your IP address and basic browser information, as it would for any site that loads fonts this way.

• Error reporting. When enabled, we use Sentry to be told when something throws an error — both in your browser and on our server — so we can fix it. It is configured to report errors only: session replay is turned off, so your screen is never recorded, and performance tracing is off. An error report can include the error message, the page address, your browser and operating system version, and a short trail of what was clicked or requested just before it. It does not include the values you typed into a document.

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

Children

FormZip is a tool for work and business paperwork. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

Because your details stay on your device, you are in direct control of them. The My documents page lets you export everything you have saved as a JSON file and delete it, and clearing your browser storage removes the rest. We hold no copy to delete on your behalf. If we add something that changes this picture — analytics, payments, or accounts — we will update this page before that feature is switched on for you, not after.
